Still using Classic ASP Active Server Pages? Top reasons why you should update your website.
Despite the obvious reasons, like the hundreds of new features, there are three very important reasons why you should update your copy of PDshop today!
1. Microsoft is discontinuing support for Classic ASP
Microsoft's ASP.NET is the newer version of ASP, PDshop versions are now released exclusively for the ASP.NET platform, and we no longer recommend using Classic ASP versions for storing sensitive data. Consider upgrading your copy of PDshop to one of our .Net editions.
2. Your site may not be PCI Compliant.
You may be violating the Payment Card Industry (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, and
Discover) rules. All businesses, regardless of size, that accept credit or debit card payments online, must be PCI compliant meaning your website must be compliant too. You could be subject to non-compliance fines ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 (or more). Version 7 and earlier are not PCI compliant
3. Your site may be vulnerable or at risk of being exploited or compromised.
Just like how you update windows and update other internet related software on your PC, you need to keep your website updated too. If you are using Version 5 or earlier, it’s safe to say your site is very outdated and may be vulnerable or at risk of being exploited or compromised. Older versions use outdated encryption methods, that hackers can easily break today. Today's versions of PDshop encrypt sensitive data using more advanced encryption techniques such as SHA 256 bit, triple DES encryption, and include advanced Password hashing and Password salting. PDshop also incorporates dozens of other security features now, like SQL injection and cookie tampering filters, a necessity these days. Unfortunately the Classic ASP (VBscript) language, was created before these more modern methods & techniques existed.
