How to install Personal Web Server or Internet Information Server
You can run ASP & ASP.NET based apps on your own PC without an external server. To do that, you must install Microsoft's Internet Information Server (known as IIS) on your PC.  IIS is included in many versions of Windows.

Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 (IIS):
To install IIS, go to "Add/Remove Programs" under your Windows control panel.  Next, locate Windows features and enable IIS this way.

Windows 2000 Professional (IIS):
To install IIS follow the instructions provided by Microsoft (see Related Links below). Microsoft also provides a patch that fixes several security problems, be sure to install all recommended fixes.

Windows XP Professional (IIS):
IIS 5 comes with Windows XP Professional, and is installed like other Windows components. Open the "Start" menu, select "Settings", from the "Control Panel". Next, open "Add/Remove Programs," and click on "Add/Remove Windows Components". Next, select "Internet Information Services". Then, click on "Details" and check "World Wide Web Service". Once installation is completed, visit Microsoft's website for all the critical bug fixes and updates.
